My Internet Business #1

With both of my boys grown I was left with a lot of time on my hands. I went through the “Empty Nest Syndrome” when Vic left for college. My solution was to bury myself in work. In spite of loving my job, I quickly grew tired of the long hours and even longer commute.

I love the Internet and use it extensively in my business ventures.  If it’s out there, you can find it on the net!  I have been on the Internet since before there was a World Wide Web and we had to dial up to local bulletin boards and post messages. Today those are called message boards. I may be dating myself but I remember a time when the only email you got was from someone you knew. There was no SPAM. Can you imagine? I can remember!  I do know my way around the internet as well as site construction and everything that goes with that.

I also never imagined that I would have a home based business...

Lets go back a few years…

Like many other people who work in corporate America, I found myself on the losing end of a Corporate Reorganization at a time when I was recovering from a Work Related Injury.  I won’t bore you with the details, but I was determined not to become one of those injured workers who's life fell apart.  I took matters into my hands and was proactive in finding a way to replace my income.

I wasn’t really looking for a home business, certainly not a scented candle business but that’s what presented itself to us. I checked it out and did a little bit of research.

While the amount of research I did would pale in comparison to what I would tell you to do, I did find some valuable information.  I learned that a large percentage of the population burned candles in their homes daily. Around 80% of US homes burn candles and candles are one of the top gifts chosen year round. I also found out that it was a Multi Billion-Dollar Industry.

With that in mind, I purchased a dozen votives to see if this particular candle would live up to my standards.  Mitch loves Blueberries so that was the first scent I lit shortly before he was due to come home from work. I was surprised at his reaction when he walked through the door.

He asked me if I was baking muffins! (Yeah sure, if you knew me you would understand how funny that is!) That was about all I needed to hear and I signed up and started what has turned out to be one of the better decisions I’ve made in my life! That was in January 2005.

Fast forward to the present…

I now have a thriving Home Based Business marketing the best scented candle I’ve ever burned. It never crossed my mind that I would be knowledgeable about candle wax.  I’m sure it hasn’t crossed your mind either. It’s just not something that someone thinks about in his or her every day life.
